Singer/songwriter Nicole Borger, was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Her family history (American father and Portuguese/German mother) was an extremely fertile source of international influences and a solid background to her work as a performer, allowing her to travel at ease through diverse musical genres and to sing with fluency in several languages.
At age six, Nicole was already attending her first piano lessons. Her studies of music continue to this day at São Paulo´s Santa Marcelina University, where she is working on a degree in Composition.
Along with her musical career, Nicole obtained a Law Degree from the Catholic University of São Paulo and specialization courses in Economic and International Laws, at the University of São Paulo and in Individual Taxation in the US and in the UK.
In 1999, Nicole premiered her "Taxation Blues" concert with musical direction by acclaimed Brazilian pianist and arranger Gabriel Levy. Her first CD, "AMAR - Um encontro com Florbela Espanca" (TO LOVE - An Encounter with Florbela Espanca), recorded and released in 2001, consolidates her musical career as a singer and as a songwriter.
In June 2001, Nicole premiered the full concert for the album´s release in some of the best theatres and cultural centers of São Paulo. The show received immense critical acclaim by the press and public. Nicole was also featured by the hugely popular Jo Soares nightly talk show on Brazil´s leading Globo TV. In August 2002, Nicole presented herself in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and was interviewed by Katrina Geenen, from "Tudo Bem?" the Brazilian Music radio program on WWOZ Radio, in New Orleans. And in November 2002, Nicole and band toured successfully to the Northeast region of Brazil, where public and press fell in love with her.
In 2003, Nicole produced the concerts: "Shorashim" (Roots) a unique feast of Jewish Music, and "Saudades" (Nostalgia), which premiered at one of the most celebrated music festivals of Brazil, the Winter Festival of Campos do Jordão, and "Sentimental Jazz", at the Theatre of the Cultura Inglesa, in São Paulo. In November 2003, she participated at the WOMEX in Seville, Spain.
In March 2004, she produced "Canções que Ella Cantava" (Songs that Ella Sang) at the São Pedro Theatre, a major jazz project directed by Clarice Abujamra, one of Brazil´s most talented actresses, and a band of eight musicians This project was fully sponsored by Bloomberg do Brasil, in benefit of GRAAC - an organization that helps children with cancer. In September 2004, Nicole produced and performed in São Paulo and in Curitiba, a "Tribute to Naomi Shemer", the fantastic Israeli songwriter, who had died two months before.
In 2003/2004, Nicole also worked for the Center of Jewish Culture in São Paulo, as a consultant on musical projects and activities, and in May 2004, Nicole toured in the USA, singing at Joe´s Pub (Public Theatre) in New York, and other venues in Boston, Miami, and México City. In 2005, now working with guitarist and arranger Italo Peron, her second CD - SINGRAR/ Sailing Songs - is released in São Paulo, andfollowed by a new set of tours thru the Northeast of Brazil, and once again to the USA.
In 2006, Nicole produced a jazz band called JAZZPERATES - only women - which has made, so far, twelve presentations, in various venues in São Paulo. From September thru the year-end Nicole performed as a soloist, in MISA CRIOLLA, at the Coexistance Exhibit, in Ibirapuera Park, and other theatres, and Mozart´s Regina Coeli, accompanied by the Choire and Orchestra of Sacred Music of São Paulo.
In 2006 Nicole also recorded her third CD - Marias - which will be released in 2007.
