http://www.songbirdtaeko.com and Flat Nine Records present Taeko Fukao's "One Love." A native of Japan, Taeko came to New York City in 1998 with dreams of expanding her singing career and took a strong liking to Jazz. Taeko studied with Juanita Fleming, a jazz & gospel singer who was a vocalist with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band, and Marion Cowings who is the first disciple of Jon Hendricks. The intense jazz study, coupled with her
naturally appealing clear voice and unique musical ideas, have earned her performances in some of New York City's best known jazz clubs, including Blue Note, Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar, Lenox Lounge, and Zinc Bar. Her musical talent is also bought to Japan every spring and fall.

"Definitely one heck of a jazz singer, Taeko Fukao's graceful approach to the music leaves quite an impression on "One Love." Armed with a beautiful voice and range, this is one lady of jazz who knows how to carry a tune and make it come alive." - Edward Blanco / http://www.ejazznews.com/

Blue Moon - TAEKO the songbird sings in Tokyo

This is how TAEKO sometimes opens up her song when singing American Jazz Standards to Japanese audience. She takes a simple and pretty song such as Blue Moon, gives her own line-by-line interpretations in Japanese and brings the audience to the same page in the most organic way..... pretty cool? Enjoy!

TAEKO is an established contemporary jazz singer from Japan, based in New York, brings her love and art to all over the globe. For more information about TAEKO, visit

Footsteps:
Born and raised in Japan, Taeko came to New York City in 1998 to expand her singing career and discovered the world of Jazz. Her intense jazz study, coupled with a naturally appealing voice and unique musical ideas, have earned her performances in some of New York City's best known jazz clubs, including Blue Note, Minton’s Playhouse, Kitano, Zinc Bar, and St. Nick’s Pub and an honor to be the finalist in 2008 Jazz Mobile Vocal Competition. Taeko conducts entire country tour to Japan every year.

Taeko was featured in the Women in Jazz Festival (NY) in April 2009 which also featured the legendary Annie Ross. Taeko headlined at Pork Pie Hat Jazz Concert Series (CT) in November 2008, the historical Hartford Jazz Society’s Monday Night Jazz Concert Series (CT) in July 2009, and Newburgh Jazz Series (NY) in August 2009.

ONE LOVE” (2007/Flat Nine Records) introduces the young star and is one of the best vocal albums in recent years. “Taeko has remarkable range and vocal command, able to manipulate normal notes into tapestries of sound. She tempers deep soulfulness reminiscent of Anita Baker with sophisticated scatting a la Ella Fitzgerald. The combination is a treat and never feels forced,” wrote a jazz critic Jordan Richardson.
