The One O’Clock Lab Band, UNT’s premier jazz ensemble....

The Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas will tour Europe this October, including performances at the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival — one of Ireland’s biggest jazz events. Festival organizers have billed the band as “widely reckoned to be the best college jazz big band in the world today” and “one of the best ensembles to perform in Cork in recent years.”Under the direction of Grammy-nominated composer and arranger Steve Wiest, the band will offer a master class at the University College Cork School of Music, as well as a concert at the noted jazz club The Bull’s Head in London, broadcast live on the UK Jazz Radio at http://www.ukjazzradio.com/ . Tune in online to hear the band perform two one-hour sets at 2:30 p.m. CST (8:30 p.m. London time) and 4 p.m. CST (10 p.m. London time) Oct. 28 (Thursday).
The One O’Clock Lab Band, UNT’s premier jazz ensemble, has performed and toured throughout the world — including Australia, Canada, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand and The Netherlands. The band’s albums have received six Grammy nominations over the years, including Lab 2009’s two nominations — one for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album and one for Best Instrumental Composition for “Ice-Nine” by Wiest. The UNT jazz program — the first of its kind in the nation — is housed within the College of Music, one of the largest and most comprehensive music schools in the nation.
