As for me, I cannot complain. Summiting Mount Shasta, nine days of forest bathing* in Quincy/Plumas National Forest, then traveling with nothing but day packs across Mexico (from Tlayacapan, Morelos to hidden beaches and jungle lagoons in Veracruz)! Phew, that was just June and July!
This was the first time in seven years we were able to visit family in Mexico. They are all doing wonderfully, and the country is booming. Many people told us it would be more dangerous to travel in Mexico thanks to the drug wars. I'm happy to report this was not the case. We hope to get back on a more frequent visiting schedule, now that the kids can trek long distances.
I've already explained in detail about Shasta, but in case you missed it, click here for the whole story. Likewise for Oakland Feather River Camp, where it was a real joy working for the first time with ukelele instructor Kathy Quain. Our final show was packed with beautiful moments, modern dance (!), new music from future pop stars, jazz, family folk surprises and ... ukelele gems! We were joined by a number of families who had formerly been lifelong Berkeley Tuolumne Camp members. Many of them expressed what those of us who come regularly already know: OFRC is in a gorgeous high mountain meadow setting that is quite different from the Yosemite ecology, and the people are super mellow! Yes!
Oakland Art & Soul and San Jose Jazz Festival were both slamming outdoor music experiences, filled with familiar faces and warm vibes. Next up for Pacific Mambo is this Sunday's 4 pm concert in Belvedere, where you can come listen and dance for free! Don't miss it, Marin-ites! On August 30th, we'll be in Los Angeles -- Marina Del Rey, to be exact.
