Camp teaches Pennridge middle schoolers about all that jazz

Fridays are supposed to be a day off for Peace-Tohickon Evangelical Lutheran Church Pastor Serena Sellers, but she made sure to be at the church Friday, Aug. 8, for the concert that concluded a week-long jazz camp for Pennridge School District middle school students.

“I’ve been listening to this group all week and it is tremendous,” Sellers told those in attendance.

The camp was organized by Deanna Mikalauskas, a Pennridge High School Jazz Ensemble saxophone section member and a drum major for the Pennridge Marching Rams about to start her senior year at the school.

“You have no idea how much work this took to get together, and she has done a great job,” said Greg Benson, Pennridge High School music director, who was one of the volunteer mentors at the camp and the concert conductor.
