Carsie Blanton is a clever and articulate performer who has many qualities of the classic songwriters plus a contemporary attitude that makes it seem fresh. Her journey from Laree, Va. to Oregon, where she joined an art colony at age 16, through her wandering back to the Phoenixville area wherein she once worked the counter at Steel City, informs her music.

Today, she is living in New Orleans, enjoying the music and dancing there, including blues, jazz, and swing. Her latest album is a change, for it is a salute to jazz and is not a work of originals.

Blanton used the popular Kickstarter online fundraising method to back the current disc.

She recounts, “I figured this project was a good candidate for crowd-funding, because it has such a specific and shareable goal: sharing jazz with people who don't ‘get it.’ I have found that lots of people think of jazz as too academic, or too cheesy, for them. That bums me out because I'm such a gigantic fan of the music, and especially the songwriting style from that era.

“So, the goal of the record is to perform these great old songs, many of which risk being ‘forgotten,’ in a way that's easy to love for people from any background. The $60,000 I raised on Kickstarter will cover recording, manufacturing, PR and a full-band release tour. Plus, a small solo tour in Australia! In other words: everything I asked for and way more!”

Last time, Blanton used the Wood Brothers and their Atlanta connections for an album of originals but this time it was different.
