Fall officially arrives this weekend and the Kingsburg District Chamber of Commerce is set to debut an event that celebrates the start of the season on Saturday. The inaugural Harvest Moon Jazz Festival will feature food, vendors, games and of course jazz music from 5 to 10 p.m. in downtown Kingsburg.

“We have put together an event that pays tribute to both agriculture and the harvest season,” said Adam Castaneda, president of the chamber.

Several other annual events are being combined and held during the Jazz Festival such as the 4th Annual Jonathan’s Dining Under the Stars dinner featuring ribs, the Crayfish Chowder Contest and the Great Pumpkin Arrival. New this year will be the Harvest Moon Baking Contest.

For the Great Pumpkin Arrival, mega pumpkin growers will bring their largest creations to be weighed. The winner will take home a $500 prize for the gourd that weighs the most. For the inaugural Harvest Moon Baking Contest, a first place finish will see the winner receive $100.

“It’s going to be so exciting,” Castaneda said. “The Crayfish Chowder contest is one of the most popular events we had ever held and we were asked to make sure that was included for our festival.”
