What makes Clark Terry's trumpet and flugelhorn sound so special? As I wrote in 2010, it's his signature ability to swing hard and punctuate with confidence—without ever broiling his notes. Clark always leaves the ear with warm, pretty tones, mostly by bending notes slightly for flavor.
