Meet Florida Orchestra member Alan Glick, bass


With the orchestra since: 1993
Favorite music besides classical:jazz: Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Evans (piano), Ellington, Basie, Armstrong. Also Jolson, Klezmer and Broadway (any period before it turned to rock).
Favorite book: Moby Dick: as complex, engaging and rewarding as Wagnerian opera.
Currently reading. Isaac Asimov's Foundation trilogy. I'm not a big sci-fi fan but I'm enjoying these page turners.
Favorite Movies: King Kong (1933),Metropolis, Citizen Kane, Gunga DinOn the Waterfront, East of Eden, Brazil. Most works by John Ford, James Whale, Tim Burton, Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy.
Favorite date night/place in Tampa Bay: Paci's Pizza across from Plant High School. Authentic Brooklyn style.
Some little-known, yet interesting fact about me: I'm a rail fan, especially about the New York subway system, on which I've been writing a book.
My nickname for my instrument is:Siegfried's Rhinefahrt
My favorite piece to play on my instrument: John Cage's 4'33".
