News: Jazz in So. Orange
Evenings in the shoping district of South Orange are special. Musicians, including some great jazz, can be heard on the streets and free venues every Friday and Saturday night. The event committee has coordinated a great series that will run through the summer. Join in the fun at South Orange Village Center for live entertainment and great shopping & dining! Concerts are from 7pm to 10pm and are weather permitting.
News: Jazz Icons in Jersey City
Winard Harper played in the 1980s with Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, and Betty Carter, the last for four years. While working with Carter he met Wycliffe Gordon, with whom Harper would collaborate repeatedly. He's played alongside world-class players, including Justin Robinson, Javon Jackson, Walter Blanding, Kiyoshi Kitagawa, Stephen Scott, Kevin Hays, Michael Bowie, Nedra Wheeler, and Avery Sharp.
He hosts weekly jazz events at Jersey City's Moore's Lounge, aka Bill and Ruth's, that introduce the jazz community to world-class players.
News: Tal Farlow Guitars
Steve Miller and Vic Juris play famous guitars.
An exibit of seven Gibson guitars that belonged to jazz guitar great, Tal Farlow, have been on display this month at Rudys Music Shop in SoHo. The estate has decided to sell the instruments. Accoring to Gordon, the store manager, Michele Farlow, Tal's widow said that the classic instruments 'needed to be played'. The guitars will remain on display at Rudy's until the are delivered to their new owners.
