The 18th annual Healdsburg Jazz Festival starts Friday, June 3, with a sold-out performance by guitarist Julian Lage, accompanied by Scott Colley on bass and Kenny Wollesen on drums.
The festival, which runs through June 12, offers a busy schedule of both ticketed and non-ticketed events. Highlights include the two-day homage to jazz drummer Billy Hart’s 50-year career. Hart has collaborated with Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, among many others, and performed at 11 of the past 17 Healdsburg Jazz Festivals.
This weekend’s concerts goes full circle, reuniting Hart with two of his past bands, Quest and Enchance, on Saturday, June 4, while on Sunday, Hart will perform with his current band, the Billy Hart Quartet.
Other acts include the Charlie Hunter Trio, the Claire Daly Quintet and a tribute to New Orleans with Michael White, Gregg Stafford, Seva Venat and Mitchell Player. — Frances Saux
