Vladimir Danilin

Vladimir Danilin was born in Domodedovo near Moscow on December 2, 1946. He started learning music beginning age 5: at first he was mastering accordion, then cello, after it switched to accordion. He has been playing jazz since 13 years old. In the beginning of 60-s he got acquainted with young Moscow jazzmen, among them were: trumpeter Andrey Tovmasyan, saxophonist Boris Midnyi, contrabassist Igor Berukshtis.

In 60-s he played in his own trio (accordion, bass, percussion) and in quartet of saxophonist Edward Uteshin. As a member of the quartet he participated in festival in Kalinin (now Tver’). He performed with Valery Ponomarev – a trumpeter, Yuri Chugunov, Anatoly Gerasimov, Stanislav Grigoriev – saxophonists. During eight years he was a pianist in Andrey Tovmasyan Quintet, for three years (1980-1983) he played in Oleg Lundstrem Orchestra and for a year in the band of saxophonist Vladimir Konovaltsev.

In 90-s he returned to accordion, in the end of 90-s in the trio Vladimir Danilin (accordion) – Alexey Kuznetsov (guitar) – Alex Rostotsky (electric bass) he released “Once I Loved”(Boheme Music,1999) album that had wide circulation. As a solo accordion he performed with the Orchestras of Oleg Lundstrem and Igor Butman, played on Moscow stages with Benny Golson, Winton Marsalis and other stars of world jazz.
