Abdullah Ibrahim
One of the most prominent African jazz musicians, pianist Abdullah Ibrahim (previously named Dollar Brand) was mentored by Duke Ellington, and fused the approach of Duke and Monk with the sensibilities of free jazz and South African choral and gospel music. He is currently going strong in his fifth decade of music-making, and continues to make music that is challenging and spiritually vibrant.

Jazz Night In America with Christian McBride
Tue, Jan 19th from 9:00PM - 10:00PM

Celebrating Rahsaan Roland Kirk
Rahsaan Roland Kirk was a boundary-pushing virtuoso on multiple wind instruments (sometimes at once). It certainly rubbed off on Steve Turre, who apprenticed with Kirk in the 1970s. Turre has become a monster player himself, and also specializes in multiple horns — both the trombone and the conch shell. Jazz Night In America follows Turre to Jazz at Lincoln Center, where he's assembled a monster lineup to celebrate one of his major influences.
