The Hammond B-3 Organ has helped define the jazz sound since the 1950’s when it was pioneered by legends such as Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Larry Young and, later, Joey DeFrancesco. On Sunday, November 8, Tampa Jazz Club and the HCC Performing Arts Series will present Jack Wilkins’ B3 ‘Tet as they romp through classic blues and jazz tunes from the great tradition of the jazz organ quartet. Tenor saxophonist Jack Wilkins will lead an all-star quartet featuring Chris Rottmayer on the Hammond B-3 organ, LaRue Nickelson on guitar and Walt Hubbard on drums. The performance will take place at 3:00 PM in the Mainstage Theatre of the Performing Arts Building on the Ybor campus of Hillsborough Community College. 

Mr. Wilkins is the Director of the Jazz Studies Program at the University of South Florida where he teaches courses in jazz improvisation, jazz history and applied jazz performance. He also directs the USF Jazztet, an internationally acclaimed student jazz ensemble that has performed at the Montreux, North Sea, Vienna and Umbria Jazz Festivals in Europe. 

An accomplished jazz saxophonist, Mr. Wilkins has 5 CD’s out as a leader, the most recent being his “Blue and Green Project," which he performed at this year's Clearwater Jazz Holiday. He also serves as a member of the Florida Jazz Educators Board and is a long time member of the faculty of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops and a Yamaha Instrument Company clinician.
