Preview: Blue Note Jazz At Sea

Cunard liner Queen Mary 2 hosts the first Blue Note Jazz At Sea, a transatlantic cruise with Robert Glasper, Marcus Strickland and headliner Natalie Cole

The inaugural Blue Note Jazz At Sea takes place this autumn and features some major artists from the famous record label. The transatlantic cruise, on board Cunard's flagship liner the Queen Mary 2, leaves New York on 29 October and arrives in Southampton on 5 November.

Cunard Director Angus Struthers says "We believe this collaboration with Blue Note will make for something truly unforgettable."

Natalie Cole has been announced as the headline act. Other Blue Note artists will also be performing on the voyage. The acts who have been annouced to date include keyboard player and producer Robert Glasper, whose latest album Covered (The Robert Glasper Trio Recorded Live At Capitol Studios) features his acoustic trio.


There will also be appearances from bassist Alan Hampton, who has worked with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter; Uruguayan pianist Fredrico Peña; guitarist Lionel Loueke; trumpeter Keyon Harrold; tenor saxophonist Marcus Strickland; bassist Derrick Hodge (a member of Robert Glasper's Experiment) and drummer Kendrick Scott. In addition there will be performances by the Blue Note All Star band, Our Point Of View, which includes some of the big-name artists already mentioned.
