Press Release: NZSM
NZSM Events in Jazz Week
Wellington has a chance to see the next generation of jazz musicians, and some international stars, perform during this month’s Wellington Jazz Festival.
For the first time, Victoria University’s Te Koki New Zealand School of Music will be a part of the Wellington Jazz Festival’s programme.
The project invites high school bands from around the country to attend workshops and be tutored by staff and other experts.
The polished performances will then be showcased to the public at a concert.
The New Zealand School of Music’s Big Band, staff, and special guests will also perform.
The special guests are director of jazz at Temple University in Philadelphia, Dick Oatts, and trumpeter Jon Papenbrook, who has recorded with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
Senior lecturer at the New Zealand School of Music David Lisik said the project was educational for the school students.
