Barbara Dennerlein had been invited by the "Kultur querbeet" initiative to Celle on October. With her concert she fascinated the audience, the newspaper reported.
A video transmission allowed the visitors to see on a large screen in the alter room how the organist dunked into the endless soundscapes of the organ. "With her symbiosis of jazz, blues and classical music", the newspaper wrote, "she fascinated the audience right from the beginning and showcased in a truly electrifying way how she is able to draw brave tone colours, chord layers and emotions from a pipe organ.
Free from the corset of conventional sheet notation she celebrated her music with incredible density and passion. It was an intense experience to see how she improvised and how the melodies and soft swinging rhythms formed a huge sound picture under her hands and feet. With visible joy she developed complex grooves, abandoned herself to individual musical interpretations, occasionally compressed her improvisations to dense and sometimes eruptive clusters like in an ascending thunderstorm, and released them in exhilarating way.
And even though she was not sparing with notes at all, each of them was thoughtfully set and elaborated - like in her "Holy Blues" or in the "Spiritual Movements" - as if to avoid the unnecessary in the exuberance. Thus, the musical impression was intense and awesome, while in fascinating manner the causation was visible on the screen.
"I feel how the organ is working, I feel really involved", Dennerlein told the excites audience, that again and again applauded frenetic, after her composition "The Unforgettable" which was in a similar groovy swing rhythm like her title "Oversized" she played later. "Green Paradise" instead was an emotional romantic ballad where she allowed the audience to feel breath and pulse of the organ by carefully pulling the stops one after another and dancing across the keys and pedals with hands and feet. A grand concert experience."
