8 internationally-known New York musicians - core alumni members of the freewheeling, Grammy-winning Gil Evans Orchestra of the mid and late '70s - reunite to celebrate the band's "Monday Night At Sweet Basil" era.

The many skilled musicians who came through the hybrid electric/acoustic band in the '70s and '80s included major recording artists and sidemen, stars and newcomers, regulars on network TV shows, bandleaders and first-call studio musicians - all united by a profound respect for Gil. Already a living legend in this post Miles Davis era, Gil was more interested in Jimi Hendrix than reviving "Sketches Of Spain." He he wanted to see where the music could go; he wanted to feel the Blues. The result was the freewheeling, award-winning band that traveled the world for nearly 2 decades, while holding sway every Monday night in Greenwich Village. These 8 players aren't just reading charts 25 years later; they were there.

Pete Levin (keyboards) put the project together, recalling his 15 years with Gil. In addition to his solo abums, Pete has performed and recorded with hundreds of Jazz and Pop artists - including Paul Simon, Annie Lennox, David Sanborn and Jimmy Giuffre. He has released 9 solo albums, the most recent in organ trio format with guitarist Dave Stryker and drummer Lenny White.

Lew Soloff (trumpet) has been a consummate fixture on the New York jazz scene for decades, known as a virtuoso with tremendous range and superior technical command. Best remembered for his time with Blood Sweat & Tears, Lew has performed with Ornette Coleman, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Carla Bley & the Manhattan Jazz Quintet.

Alex Foster (sax) is best known for his long tenure in the Saturday Night Live house band, but is alsothe musical director of the Mingus Dynasty. In addition to his own solo albums, Alex has performed with Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and John Scofield - and in the pop world with Arethra Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Dr. John and Paul Simon

Tom "Bones" Malone (trombone & sax) has worked in bands of Woody Herman, Louis Bellson, Doc Severinsen, Frank Zappa, Billy Cobham and 'The Band.' In 1970 he joined the Saturday Night Live house band where a musical skit featuring John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd mushroomed into The Blues Brothers Band, which toured the world and a feature film in which Tom appears as a fictionalized version of himself. In 1993, Malone reunited with SNL veterans Paul Shaffer and Will Lee in the CBS Orchestra which still performs on Late Night with David Letterman.

John Clark (french horn) is one of only a handful of horn players proficient in non-classical genres. John has performed with a wide variety of musicians, including Linda Ronstadt, B.B. King, Oliver Lake, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, Sting, Joni Mitchell, Gerry Mulligan, Isaac Hayes, Carla Bley, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Spyro Gyra, Carly Simon, Joe Lovano, Jaco Pastorius, Paquito D'Rivera, Jim Hall, The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the Paul Winter Consort.
