Zazz concert at high school
Friday bodes to be a beautiful night, especially to enjoy swing and Big Band music in the outdoors at Jazz Under the Stars concert at Manville High School. The concert is sponsored by the Manville Music Organization."We have four very talented high school junior and senior vocalists, the Manville High School Jazz Band, and our featured ensemble, the Garden State Jazz Orchestra, a group of professional musicians," said band director Ken Zampella. Participating will be about 20 student musicians and 20 professional musicians.
"This is our third annual Jazz Under the Stars concert," said Mr. Zampella. "Each year the students have been getting more and more excited about performing for an audience that extends outside of town, as well as music lovers of all kinds."
According to Mr. Zampella, "The Garden State Jazz Orchestra strongly promotes the education of music in public and private schools, especially given the amount of budget cuts happening all over the state. Being the director of this phenomenal group, I knew that we could use our talents to help raise money to aid in costs above and beyond the already constant support of the band program here at Manville."
There will be a variety of classic jazz standards, as well as some Motown and rock tunes.
"I feel that’s important for the students to know that what they do is not just playing an instrument or participating in a club. It’s being a part of something bigger than yourself that allows them a creative outlet to express themselves without words, and be able to connect with people on a personal level," said Mr. Zampella.
