Natixis Global Asset Management (NGAM), one of the world’s leading asset managers, today announced the launch of the “2014 Jazz Diplomacy Project,” which includes high-level panel discussions and roundtables, two renowned jazz festivals, and a series of more than 200 events celebrating jazz and bringing together thought leaders to explore solutions to challenges facing the world today. “Historically, jazz has served as a unifying force bringing people together to engage in a healthy dialogue around issues critical to society,” said John Hailer, president and chief executive officer, Natixis Global Asset Management – The Americas and Asia. “We are launching this project to put the spotlight on this inspiring American tradition as a reminder of what we can accomplish through the power of collaboration.”
As a part of the Jazz Diplomacy Project, NGAM will provide support to the Foundation for the National Archives, the Newport Jazz Festival and the Berklee College of Music to sponsor a series of events throughout the year. In conjunction with several of the events, NGAM plans to host roundtable discussions on critical issues facing America today, including education, immigration and the economy. The firm also plans to draw on the lessons learned from past jazz diplomacy efforts to advocate for potential solutions. Follow #jazzdiplomacy on Twitter for updates on upcoming events.
Jazz and U.S. History
The Jazz Diplomacy Project’s events start at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. with a series of programs exploring the history of jazz, its role in America’s culture, and diplomatic relations. The National Museum’s jazz programming begins on April 24 – during National Jazz Appreciation Month – and spans the next five months, during which the museum and the nonprofit Foundation for the National Archives will present jazz-related panel discussions, concerts, film screenings, special events, and family activities exploring one of America’s greatest cultural exports.
“Natixis Global Asset Management is a tremendous supporter of jazz,” said Patrick M. Madden, executive director of the Foundation for the National Archives. “Their partnership aligns with the Archives’ desire to celebrate how jazz brings people together and crosses cultures. Our programs will showcase key records from the Archives’ holdings and great music. During this series, audiences will be entertained and surprised at the varying connections between this American art form and our government.”
