“Di Fiore’s presence as a composer and instrumentalist goes against every stereotype in the book for a drummer—and it’s sorely needed.”- ~ All About Jazz ~
Born and raised in Scotch Plains, NJ, Jon was given his first set of drums at the age of 3 thanks to the encouragement and support of his family. Growing up he can remember being propped up at the kitchen table, barley able to hold sticks, banging around with his grandfather and uncle. As a child he was self taught with the help of the cds he stole from his mother and father’s collection. He continued his musical interests with the aid of his public school district’s music program from elementary through high school. It was then that his interest in classical, jazz, and world music grew. He received his B.M. in Jazz Performance from NJCU in 2011 and his M.M. in Jazz studies from William Paterson University in 2013.
Jon released his debut recording Patience in 2012 featuring Joe Magnarelli, Rich Perry, Adrian Moring, Billy Test, and Jeremy Fratti. His second record under Third Freedom Music titled Yellow Petals will be released March 4th, 2014 featuring Di Fiore’s compositions with Adrian Moring and Billy Test. He has been very fortunate to perform and record with some of the most sought after musicians in NYC including Bucky Pitzarelli, Steve LaSpina, Steve Davis, Scott Robinson, and Jim Ridl to name a few, as well as international artist like Jorge Armani from Argentina.
Jon also freelances as a percussionist making his Lincoln Center debut at Avery Fisher Hall performing with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony in May of 2011, and performing the ’07 & ’08 seasons with the New Jersey Metropolitan Orchestra. In 2010 he was honored to perform as a featured soloist at the Percussive Arts Society’s New Jersey Day of Percussion. In 2009 Jon was awarded the Thomas H. Kean Award for Performance from the New Jersey Arts Foundation.
Jon is currently an Adjunct Professor of Music at Essex County College and an instructor of drums, percussion, and piano at Serrano’s Music Academy in Belleville, NJ. Jon is available for private lessons and clinics.
