A group of Newark High School Students got a lesson in music history today from some world class Jazz and Blues musicians.
Several hundred students were treated to a concert featuring Blues Hall of Famer and Allman Brothers Band Co-Founder Jaimoe, who says when he was in high school music was his only outlet.
“Music is really, it saved My Life I say.”
It was a celebration of music and culture that took the students on a musical journey from Africa to New Orleans to Brazil. Paul Lieberman is the programs curator.
“There is this very rich deep contribution from Africa that came as a gift not only America but the entire new world and it’s very much at the foundation of our culture, not just our music but our entire culture.”
