From Friday through July 13, dozens of music styles will be heard around the city as 500 artists take the stage at free day-time gigs and midnight parties.
“We do have some pretty major acts,” said Lulu Healy, artistic director of the festival.
New Orleans psychedelic funk legend Dr. John, who has played with Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison and The Rolling Stones, kicks off the festival Friday night.
Healy said they were also really lucky to nab The Wailers for next Friday evening, a famous reggae group who gained popularity in the 1970s with Bob Marley.
This year, the festival will host its first all-ages evening show at The Pavilion featuring the Ottawa DJ group, A Tribe Called Red.
“It’s just a chance for underage people to come and see some of the groups that play in the clubs,” Healy said.
