Fall River Public Library to host evening of medieval, Renaissance music

The Friends of the Fall River Public Library present the Solstice Sackbuts on Monday, March 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fall River Public Library Meeting Room, 104 N. Main St. The group will perform medieval and Renaissance music, classical music, pop and jazz.

The group will take a musical tour through the centuries with interesting anecdotes about the music, the times and the history of the trombone, ending with some up-tempo selections. The repertoire will include pieces by Banchieri, Weelkes, Couperin, Speer, LaFosse, Gershwin, Fillmore and others.

The sackbut is a brass instrument from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, and is an ancestor of the modern trombone. The Solstice Sackbuts will perform on soprano, alto, tenor and bass trombones.
