For the last eight months Karl Berger’s Stone Workshop Orchestra has played every Mondayat the Stone and will have its final performances at the Stone on December 5 with two benefit performance sets, at 8:00pm and 10:00pm, featuring guest soloists John Zorn (alto saxophone) and Steven Bernstein (trumpet).

The Orchestra is conducted by Karl Berger in his inimitable style, developed over many years at the legendary Creative Music Studio. One of the trademarks is Ingrid Sertso’s uncanny vocalization and poetry.

Karl’s “Music Mind” concept introduces a new approach and experience of harmonizing improvised sound for orchestral explorations of original themes or melodies from the inexhaustible bounty of the world music traditions as well as lines written by the likes of Don Cherry or Ornette Coleman.

Performers on Dec. 5  include: John Zorn (alto sax), Steven Bernstein (slide trumpet), Frederika Krier, David Bakridges (violin), Sylvain Leroux, Peter Buettner (flutes), Ken Ya Kawaguchi(Shakuhachi), Jason Candler (alto clarinet), Michael Lytle, bass clarinet, Avram Fefer (soprano sax), Welf Doerr, David Schnug (alto sax), Stephen Gauci, Yuri Kretzmer (tenor sax ), Bill Ylitalo (alto flute and baritone sax),  Bob Selcoe, Herb Robertson, Brian Groder (trumpet), Steve Swell (trombone), Harvey Valdes, Kenny Wessel (guitar), John Ehlis (Mandolin), Hilliard Greene, David Perrott, John Pietaro, percussions, Lou Grassi, Philip Foster (odds and ends), Mossa Bildner (vocals) and surprise guests.
