Barring some "Unforgettable"-style fun with overdubs, music listeners can add something new to the list of opportunities lost due to Amy Winehouse's tragic death this summer: a "supergroup" featuring the Roots' ?uestlove and saxophone player Soweto Kich.
Winehouse had been planning to record a jazz album with the potential group, producer Salaam Remi has disclosed, according to BBC News. Remi shared the news at a media listening session for Winehouse's posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, due out December 6 (and featuring cover art by none other than Bryan Adams). "There were a bunch of other names bouncing around," says the producer, who reportedly added that he knew about Winehouse's "supergroup" ambitions because "she had written down everything she wanted to do." Does that mean there are Winehouse journals waiting to be published?
The "supergroup" may have fallen by the wayside, but the British soul-pop star did manage to collaborate with ?uestlove prior to her death. The Roots' drummer appears more than once on Lioness, on such tracks as "Half Time" and "Best Friend," according to BBC News. Winehouse was found dead in her London apartment on July 23, and a coroner recently ruled the death was caused by drinking too much alcohol.
