Lively
music Saturday at the Bull Falls Brewery outdoor beer garden in Wausau got jazz
lovers' toes tapping and raised money for local music students.
Organizers
said the second year of the Sid Kyler River Valley Jazz Festival is all about featuring central Wisconsin's musical
talent and funding lessons through scholarships. Don
Zamzow, co-owner of the Bull Falls Brewery and a festival organizer, said he
was thrilled with this year's event and expects organizers to continue it.
"The
brewery started out featuring local jazz talent one night a week, and that led
Sid (Kyler) to propose a festival," Zamzow said. "And then we thought,
'Why not keep this money in the community and encourage young musicians?'"
The
recipient of last year's $600 scholarship is Nathan Vergin, a 2011 D.C. Everest
Senior High School graduate who plans to study music at the University of
Wisconsin-Green Bay.
