Join in on an evening of food, fun, art and music at Thomas Mitchell Park on Friday, July 29.
Polk County Conservation, Great Outdoors Fund and Metro Arts Jazz in July are partnering to host a free jazz in July concert featuring the Betsy Hickok Ensemble.
Kid’s nature activities, artist exhibits and food vendors begin at 5:30 p.m. Music runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Create a decorative recycled shopping bag and play a habitat bean bag toss game.
Watch a woodcarver, watercolor painter and admire some handmade jewelry. Enjoy wine samples from Rosey Acres winery and food from the Altoona Hy-Vee and Woodland Hills Church of Christ congregation members. All ages are welcome. Thomas Mitchell Park is located between Altoona and Mitchellville off of N.E. 46th Avenue. The park entrance is on N.E. 108th Street, about 4.5 miles east of Altoona and about 2.5 miles southwest of Mitchellville. The festivities will take place at shelter No. 2, near the playground. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Southeast Polk Junior School auditorium.
