On the 20th anniversary of the death of the music prodigy Miles Davis, three legendary names, Marcus Miller, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, are realizing a project as an homage to the artist: The world premiere of the project entitled “Tribute to Miles" sponsored by Zorlu Center will take place within the scope of the 18th Istanbul Jazz Festival on the night of Thursday, July 7, at the Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre.
For the presentation of the project entitled “Tribute to Miles," its music directorship assumed by Marcus Miller whose path has crossed with Miles Davis at a young age, a press conference was organized on Monday, July 4, in the publicity office of Zorlu Center. Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter —in Istanbul for the last rehearsals of the world premiere of the project—participated in the press conference moderated by Yavuz Baydar, journalist and member of the Istanbul Jazz Festival Advisory Committee, and described the project.
Mehmet Even, Assistant General Manager of Zorlu Real Estate, who took the floor after the opening speech of Pelin Opcin, Director of the Istanbul Jazz Festival, remarked: 'We have allocated an important place for the Performing Arts Center embracing all the branches of culture and arts in Istanbul inside the Zorlu Center. The concerts supported by us will take place at the Zorlu Center Performing Arts Center very soon. We will continue to support activities adding value to our artistic and cultural life through our project which we realized with the aim of adding “value" to Istanbul and our country.'
Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter who took the floor at the conference underlined that the project entitled “Tribute to Miles" is not a typical “tribute" tour, but they mentioned that they will interpret pieces of Miles Davis with a new and original style as Miles has thought them, without playing them exactly in the same way. After the press conference, Marcus Miller also realized a bass guitar workshop with Sean Rickman in the publicity office of Zorlu Center. The free-of-charge workshop was attended by 50 lucky music lovers who had made a reservation beforehand via mail.
