BR6 - Here to Stay - Gershwin & Jobim (Launched in Brazil in April 2008 by Cracker)

"Here to Stay - Gershwin & Jobim" is a historical CD because it is the first done by an a cappella vocal group honoring the two composers. The junction of their songs in one album clearly shows that they drank from the same source, and the opening track, an arrangement that mixes "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin, with "Waters of March" by Tom Jobim, not only proves can summarize it as expertly design idea.Licensed by Cracker Country for release in April, "Here to Stay" comes with the bonus track "Raining on Rose," sung by Tom Jobim in Portuguese.


The disc, released by BR6 the U.S. in 2007, has been treading a path of success abroad, winning on the last day on April 1, 2008 FACE Award (Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award) as Best Jazz Album, at the most prestigious award categories considered the Grammy of a cappella music. The selection is made annually by the world organization of a cappella music CASA (The Contemporary A Cappella Society; www.casa.org) and is available in http://www.casa.org/content/view/1212


The natural choice fell upon the repertoire of compositions by Tom Jobim and George Gershwin. Beautiful songs that punctuate the importance and success of each of these composers were clamped on the world stage to compose this album, as well as some gems that were mined to complement it. Began the CD "Here To Stay - Geshwin & Jobim", with original arrangements for "Someone to Watch Over Me" by Gershwin, transformed into a choro, and "The Girl From Ipanema" by Jobim, presented as a rock. BR6 also betting on the classical style, as in "They Can not Take That Away From Me" by Gershwin, and "Black Duck" by Jobim, among others.

Led by the voices of BR6 letterhead, which is formed by Augusto Ordine - baritone, Crismarie Hackenberg - mezzo-soprano, Deco Fiori - tenor Marcelo Caldi - tenor, Naife Simões - vocal percussion and Simo - bass vocal the CD is all sung in English, with great songs and modern arrangements incorporating a cappella music of Brazil and the United States and its great composers. First launched in the U.S. and Canada by NuVision American label, the album had great acceptance in the U.S., where it currently occupies second place on the list RARB - Pick Up Of The Year - the best albums of 2007 of the independent association of critics Record A Cappella Review Board .

Also, "Here to Stay" has received excellent reviews, for example, the critic Alex Henderson store chain Barnes & Noble:

"(...) The a cappella format definitely works well for vocal sextet BR6 Brazilian, who sympathizes with the jazz in "Here to Stay: Gershwin and Jobim," his first album in English (...). The last (Jobim) has often been hailed as the "George Gershwin of Brazil", and listening to their standards side by side is easy to see these parallels."

The group also won it in 2005 with the best a cappella album, "Musica Popular Brasileira A Cappella" in the category World / Folk Album, and then was invited to write to the CD The Gershwin Project, the American record Kriztal, the famous song "Summertime" with characteristics very Brazilian. The success of this recording has boosted the performance of a disc produced especially for the international market in the Brazilian music that would be sung with influences of American music and vice versa.
