The eighth annual Panama Jazz Festival, which will be held in Panama City Jan. 10–15, will pay tribute to legendary Panamanian trumpeter and bandleader Victor “Vitín” Paz.
“Maestro Paz, over the course of five decades, has performed an extensive array of musical styles including traditional jazz, Latin jazz and Broadway shows with musicians from many genres,” said pianist and festival founder/artistic director Danilo Pérez. “After all of this experience, Paz returned to Panama to share his experience with the youth, helping to improve music education in the country.”
Paz will participate in the festival, and other performers will include Pérez, percussionist Paoli Mejias, flutist Matt Marvuglio and vocalist Claudia Acuña. Trombonist Conrad Herwig will perform music from his new CD The Latin Side Of Herbie Hancock (Half Note).
