You'd think a guy who'd been a coach -- at a small school, no less -- would know better. But this is what happens when you relieve Coach of his whistle, take him out of Tiny Town and move him to the big city to be the state's education czar.
All of a sudden Tony Bennett starts making with the crazy talk.
If you missed our editorial the other day here, Bennett thinks it would be a swell idea if we ended the tyranny of the IHSAA and allowed parents to move at will their budding young quarterbacks and point guards to any cotton-pickin' school they want. He told the Terre Haute Tribune Star the IHSAA has no business questioning a student's decision to switch schools.
Couple of things about that:
1. The IHSAA has every right to question a student's decision to switch schools if it clearly involves athletics, because the IHSAA is the regulatory body for high school athletics in this state. That gives it the right.
