By Stuart Brinin On May 28 at the Herbst Theatre, SFJAZZ presented a summit of two of the most talented jazz violinists on the scene today. Opening was Mads Tolling, a two-time Grammy Award winner as a member of the Turtle Island String Quartet, playing an electrifying set with his own band. That was followed by Regina Carter, considered by many the finest jazz violinist of her generation, performing music from her African-influenced Reverse Thread Project.
