*Ronnie Scott's Recommends* BOJAN Z - TETRABAND & THE JOHN ESCREET PROJECT
A fantastic double bill representing two rising stars of the contemporary scene. Franco-Serbian pianist Bojan Z presents his 'Tetraband', with Seb Rochford and Ruth Goller (rhythm section of Acoustic Ladyland) and the Italian trombonist, Gianluca Petrella, for the launch of the new album Humus, a kind of punk jazz-funk alternating melodic subtleties and pulsating rhythms, sweetened with surprising harmonies and a zest of Balkan echoes. Formerly a young lion of the UK jazz scene, pianist John Escreet now resident in New York brings his band of stellar US colleagues to the club. Trumpeter-of-the-moment Ambrose Akinmusire shares the front line with renown alto saxophonist David Binney, and John's rhythm section mates are Matt Brewer - bass and Nasheet Waits - drums. "Pianist John Escreet's recent debut 'Consequences' signals the jumpstart of a new voice in jazz" (Downbeat).

BIRELI LAGRENE - 100 Years of Django Reinhardt
Born into a traditional manouche - Gypsy family in Soufflenheim, Bas - Rhin Alsace, France in 1966, Biréli Lagrène showed early promise on guitar and by when by the age of eight he was covering the repertoire of the great guitarist Django Reinhardt, his relatives were already calling him a child prodigy. By his late teens, he was mixing with jazz greats such as Stephane Grappelli and Benny Goodman, and exploring jazz fusion with the likes of bassist Jaco Pastorius. In recent years he has returned to his first inspiration - the irresistible swing of gypsy jazz.
