Johnny Tornado Stops in Alberta on Canadian Tour

Johnny Tornado & the Storm Riders
Storm Riders Alberta Tour, Saturday, October 17
Shamrock Hotel, Calgary, Sunday, October 18
Blues on Whyte

Blues guitar man Johnny Tornado and his Storm Riders band make stops along their Canadian tour to perform in Calgary at the Shamrock Hotel tonight, and in Edmonton at the Commercial Hotel’s Blues on Whyte, on Sunday, October 18. The artist recently completed a successful tour of the Maritimes.

Hitting the road in support of his new album, also called Storm Rider, Tornado’s performances feature songs from the new album, with Tornado’s guitar and vocals, Tim Steinruck (bass), Adam Drake (drums) and special guest, the legendary guitarist Gaye Delorme forming the Storm Riders Band.
Although Johnny Tornado has worked with numerous notables in blues including the late, great Dutch Mason, Big Dave McLean and Garrett Mason, among the many, Storm Riders is his first release under his own name. The album, recorded in Vancouver, features the Storm Riders Band along with special guests Big Dave Mclean, Gaye Delorme and Wailin’ Al Walker.

With a colourful past, the soulful blues musician knows whereof he sings. Tornado’s youth was spent working the tobacco fields of Ontario. He then headed to the deep south to make a living as a pool hustler before going on to work as a carnie. He eventually ended up doing some prison time, from where he emerged with a powerful talent and a head full of songs.

Now based in Calgary, Tornado is a a steelworker by day under his given name John Pettigrew (in fact the cover of Storm Rider features a photo taken from his crane) and performing in blues clubs at night with his band.
