Mon 6th – Wed 8th July MINGUS DYNASTY
The dynasty of bassist and bandleader Charles Mingus is one that runs deep in jazz history - he is considered one of the most influential exponents of his instrument, and even after his death in 1979 at the age of 56 he remains a crucially important figure of the music. The Mingus Dynasty band, named after his 1959 album, is formed of several members of Mingus’ previous groups and is a faithful, respectful and hugely talented homage to the work of the great bassist. Lineup: Boris Kozlov - bass, Donald Edwards - drums, Orrin Evans- piano, Craig Handy altosax, flute, sopsax, Wayne Escoffery- tenorsax, Alex Sipiagin - trumpet, Ku-umba Frank Lacy - trombone, vocals
