Jazz Musicians Serie - 6

Versatility and improvisation define this quartet of seasoned jazz artists. Influenced by over 50 years of jazz styles and legends, Brijj offers a blended, unique interpretation of jazz standards and original compositions. Infusing soaring energy into straight ahead swing, samba, latin and groove-based rhythms, Brijj alternately balances ballads and softer bossas with sensitivity and originality.

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Brijj delivers nonpareil ensemble and solo artistry. Instrumentation includes trumpet, guitar, bass and drums with electric piano and scat-singing add-ons. Acoustic, electric, harmonic, melodic, dissonant, resonant and downright capricious, Brijj flat out loves to play the music.

Musicians

Quintessential jazz trumpet soloist, composer and arranger. Author and creator of Visual Jazz (www.visual-jazz.com), Bob Taylor has authored "The Art of Improvisation", "Sightreading Jazz", "Visual Jazz CD-ROM Suite" and numerous cutting-edge jazz instructional and improvisational publications.
A former instructor of jazz studies and jazz performer at Cal State University L.A., Pasadena City College, Brigham Young University, and Westminster College, Taylor has been an in-demand jazz clinician for schools and universities across the U.S., combining matchless musicianship with inimitable wit.

Rich Dixon, perhaps the most captivating guitarist in the Mountain West, is a professional studio musician who records heavily for television, radio, video, and movies. Lead guitarist for the legendary "Donny and Marie Show", Dixon has backed many top artists during his career.
Multiple "Utah Studio Musician of the Year" award winner and acclaimed international performer, Dixon is a leading voice nationwide for modern jazz guitar..
A versatile composer, arranger and recording artist, Dixon's passion is modern jazz and improvisation, although he is adept in many styles. A true guitar guru who exceeds the limits.

A top-demand bassist for recordings and performances, Jim Stout has backed many top Mountain West artists.
A gifted soloist, Stout's innovative and fluid style rates him among the very best on his instrument.
Stout has served on the jazz faculty at the University of Utah and is equally at home on the acoustic, 6-string electric, and fretless basses.
A student of legendary bassist, John Patitucci, Stout performs with amazing agility, seamlessly weaving imaginative patterns into virtually all jazz styles and rhythms. A drummers' dream.

John is the younger brother of Brijj trumpeter, Bob.
Called out of retirement, this ardent disciple of rudiments, independent coordination and Max Roach style soloing has been fine tuning his drum artistry while fellow Brijj members have patiently adopted him as an unworthy fill-in for Jay Lawrence.
Actually, Taylor's jazz drumming experience with Bob, Rich and Jim goes back over 30 years to Synthesis, BYU's renowned jazz ensemble. He was Synthesis' original drummer in 1973.
Privileged again to play with longtime friends and Brijj musicians, Taylor still performs on an original 1974 Rogers acoustic drumset with original heads intact. Web designer of the Brijj website and caricaturist of legendary jazz greats.
