Hi Claudio,
Ghana-born drumming prodigy Paa Kow hits the sweet spot between addictive groove and delectable complexity on his latest album, (Cookpot released today). Paa Kow’s deep groove and natural talent reveal a unique ability to speak to listeners with his drums, inspiring a profound spiritual conversation. His songs are captivating and danceable and incorporate lyrics in his native language, Fante, as well as English.
“My music isn’t traditional, but it has deep roots. I want to invent my own style,” he explains. “The highlife music is there, but when you listen, it’s kind of jazz, too. It’s funk. It’s the way the music comes to me.”
In recent years, PaaKow has increasingly become recognized as one of the most remarkable drum set players to tour in Africa, Europe, and America.
Follow the link below for our full press release, to hear the tracks, and to view the press kit. And please let me know if I can help your coverage by sending a CD or arrange an interview.

I've got a number of fun gigs this month, including my debut with the Mike Sailors nonet tomorrow night (Sept. 30) at the Django. Peter Graves' Atlantean Driftwood Band
Jazz, funk and blues compositions scheduled to be presented include those by Jaco Pastorius, the bands original bass player, and current legacy band members Gary Lindsey, Mike Levine and Dan Bonsanti.
Vocalist Dana Paul has been singing with the Atlantean Driftwood Band since shortly after it’s inception. Dana has been voted South Florida’s Best Male Jazz Vocalist & Best Male Pop/Rock/R&B Vocalist. The Sun Sentinel’s XS Magazine selected Dana as Best Male Vocalist in their 1995 issue. Recently Dana Paul has been heard throughout South Florida on radio and television commercials, as well as performing in regional theatre productions of Evita, A Little Night Music, Lil’ Abner, and most recently ADDlause. Says Ray Recchi of the Fort Lauderdale News/Sun-Sentinel. “...Paul is simply one of the best singers I’ve heard...”.
Begun in 1969 by music director and trombonist Peter Graves, the band has an impressive list of credits and personnel. Alumni include their original bass player Jaco Pastorius, guitarist Pat Metheny, and sax player Mark Colby.
The Atlantean Driftwood Band has recorded two albums, “Melts In Your Mouth,” released in 1989, was received with great enthusiasm and critical acclaim. The band recorded their live debut album "Jazz On The Green" in 1982 at the Sanibel Island festival of the same name.
The Atlantean Driftwood Band was the host band at the Sanibel Jazz On The Green festival for 15 years since it’s inception in 1980, an event that was a landmark in South West Florida music circles. The festival has featured some of the top names in jazz over the course of the years. Some of the artists that have been featured performing with the atlantean driftwood band include Bob James, Stanley Turrentine, “Toots” Thielemans, Randy Brecker, Chuck Mangione, Jon Hendricks, Jaco Pastorius, Randy Bernsen, Nat Adderly, Michael Brecker, Ira Sullivan and Eliane Elias. Other artists that have performed at the festival include Michael Franks, Spyro Gyra, Rippingtons, and Chick Corea.

Angel City Jazz Fest
Chris Barton Contact Reporter
October, 5, 2017
Now celebrating its 10th year, the boundary-pushing Angel City Jazz Festival
Opened last weekend with a tribute to the great Thelonious Monk, who would have turned 100 this year.
How will the festival top an opening night that featured the likes of Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jon Beasley and DJ Logic paying tribute to a late master? By offering eight more shows fanning across the city of a similar spirit:
Thursday
Metal Jazz Night — Fusing two genres that have long shared a spiritual kinship, this evening is led by local trumpeter Daniel Rosenboom, whose album “Reclamation” (released on John Zorn’s independent label Tzadik) burns with swift-twisting arrangements and barbed guitar. Not to be missed is a new quintet led by percussionist Dan Weiss, who has assembled a powerhouse band with Craig Taborn, Ben Monder, Matt Mitchell and Trevor Dunn. 8 p.m. Zebulon. $15.
