"Conduits" is guitarist Matt Panayides' second album as a leader. The album was recorded live at Bunker Studios in June of 2013 with saxophonist Rich Perry, bassist Thomson Kneeland and drummer Mark Ferber. The album was funded through the successful completion of a Kickstarter campaign.

The album features original compositions by Matt Panayides who has been busy leading groups both in New York and around the world for the past 15 years. The compositions seek to demonstrate the freedom and present‐ness that can be found in deep musical structures. The music also reflects the underlying order that can be found in even the most complex appearing natural objects.

The musicians are given space to let their individuality shine through while also playing energetically with a sympathetic group dynamic navigating intricate passages with a relaxed, fluid feel. Great sounding album featuring top NYC musicians.

Celebrated NYC Jazz Guitarist Launches Second Studio Album on Kickstarter

From: Jazz Promo Services
Press Contact: Jim Eigo, jim@jazzpromoservices.com
New York--Jazz musician and composer Matt Panayides announces the launch of his group’s second album which is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

“I’m excited about this release because the band has had an opportunity to perform this music live and is excited to channel that energy into a recording,” said Matt Panayides, guitarist and group lead. “We’ve put in countless hours to make this album a joy to listen to both for our listeners and our fans”.

Joining Matt on his album are three jazz giants and veterans of the New York music scene. The album features saxophonist Rich Perry, a long time collaborator and band member,  bass player Thompson Kneeland and drummer Mark Ferber. As Matt’s second career release,  the album promises a refreshingly modern take on traditional harmonic structures, giving each song its own unique feel and vocabulary. The result will be a mix of honest tracks paired with a compellingly beautiful voice of the instruments.

As an artist Matt hopes to create music that the listener can relate to emotionally while challenging a listener’s view of the natural world around them

. “I believe each composition is it's own unique universe, much like the multi-verse within which we live” said Panayides.

Matt’s Kickstarter campaign has 11 days left with a funding goal of $5,000. Reward options range from $1 to $500, with $10 and up receiving the early release album in October. All funds raised will be used directly for the album production, publicity and release.

Born in Cincinnati and raised in Indianapolis, he has been leading his own groups in New York for more than 10 years. While always seeking his own voice on his instrument, Matt’s playing has been influenced by guitar giants such as Grant Green, Pat Martino, Allan Holdsworth and Jimmy Raney. His compositions seek to paint a picture in the listeners’ mind which feels both unforced and fresh. His compelling melodies remain sing-able and uncomplicated while offering distinctive challenges for the improviser.

In 2008 Matt finished his Masters in Jazz Performance at William Paterson University. His master’s thesis entitled: “Towards the Creation of a New Jazz Guitar Pedagogy” details the organizational approaches of three influential jazz guitarists. He is currently in the process of molding the lessons learned in these studies into useful pedagogical tools for his students.

Mr. Panayides graduated from Manhattan School of Music in 2000 with a degree in jazz guitar performance. While attending this renowned institution he was mentored by Rodney Jones and studied with Chris Rosenberg and Garry Dial.
