Sean Jones -The Search Within

In its fifth launching for the “Mack Avenue”, the trompetista of 30 years, Sean Jones, of the other step in its continuous development as leader and formidable presence in the modern jazzística scene. Its roots in hard-bop come in the advantage in the numbers in high register, as in the suingante, “Transitions”, in the turbulent “The Storm”, with Latin influence, and in “Sean's Jones You eat Down”, one complicated part with variations of time written for it for its mentor Frank Foster. Jones, also, presents its lyric and soft side in originals as “The Ambitious Violet”, inspired for the poet and philosopher Khalil Gibran; in the soft footprint of the samba in “Life Cycles” and the gotten passionate ballad “Love's Lullaby”.

The saxofonistas Brian Hogans, in the high one, and Walter Smith, in the tenor, leaves one strong impression in its feéricos dialogues in suingantes fast times with Jones, as well as in its sensible interventions in exuberant ballads. The contributions of the pianista Orrin Evans are essential, including its performance in Fender Rhodes in livened up the 6/8 offered by Hogans in “Summer's Spring”, that in it sends to the souvenirs of initial editions of the “Return you to them the Forever” with Airto Moreira and Joe Farrell. The baterista notable Obed Calvaire characterizes the actions with its interminable ways to color a footprint, since a beautiful ballad as “The Ambitious Violet”, as in the inflamed “Transitions”, absorbed in hard-bop; in the agitated spree, as it was itself a “Jam” of “The Storm” or in “funkeada” “Sunday Reflections”.

The ace of the gaita, Gregoire Maret, adds its magical lyricism in “Life Cycles”, while the vocalista and letrista Carolyn Perteete breathe mystery and seduction in “Letter of Resignation.” , that it uses the time of a waltz. An excellent and qualified launching that will propitiate the Jones the same type of attention received for its trompetistas colleagues, Nicholas Payton and Jeremy Pelt.
