We are excited about our upcoming FundraiserWilbur Ware Weekend at a new venue, Cassandra’s Jazz Club and Gallery. Dr. Dwight and Cassandra Dickerson have chosen to open in Historic Harlem, 2256 Seventh Avenue (Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard), near 133rd Street. Our first musical weekend was in 1979 right after Wilbur passed. Galvanized by Clifford and Sandy Jordan, musicians came together in New York (and Chicago) to support and encourage us.  As you see, the WILBUR WARE WEEKEND was held at the Tin Palace in NYC. (The Chicago effort was organized by Wilbur and Valarie Campbell at Joe Segal’s Jazz Showcase.) The second effort was in 1981 at Mark Morganelli’s Jazz Forum, and it allowed us to present “Live Jazz in the Neighborhoods” in Philadelphia. At that event, Melba Liston suggested our Honoree and was our presenter. Curly Russell was our MC, and so many wonderful jazz fans turned out to support our efforts. The musicians of course were gracious and supportive with their time and their music.
We celebrated and remembered Wilbur Ware in 2012 at Merkin Hall-Kaufman Center after we had reorganized and gained authority to operate in New York State. Although it was not done to raise funds, it did provide an opportunity to enjoy wonderful music by those who always encourage our efforts and to announce our first CD “Wilbur Ware Superbass” that is still available here on our website, at CD Baby, Amazon, and everywhere online where music is sold. Whenever you purchase on Amazon, use Amazon Smile and contribute to our nonprofit.
