Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra and City Music Center of Duquesne University are registering students for two new training programs, including one that aims to extend low-cost music education to dozens of young children living in Pittsburgh’s subsidized housing and surrounding communities.
The 80 members of that group, called PJOYouth Future All-Stars, will receive instruments and training from members of CMC and PJO. The students, from age 3 to grade 4, will not be expected to have prior musical training and will be selected based on recommendations from teachers and community leaders.
On Saturdays throughout the school year, they will take lessons in eurhythmics, guitar, bass, piano, percussion or voice. Tuition is $80-$320 for 32 weeks.
Students will be enrolled in the program based on the order in which their completed application materials are received, including an application form, letter of recommendation and nonrefundable deposit of two weeks’ tuition.
