In mixing his love of jazz, classical, popular and sacred music, pianist and Director of Music at the University of Notre Dame's Sacred Heart Parish, JJ Wright has produced a reverent and highly original debut CD of Sacred Jazz with his piano trio.
Included in several best of 2014 lists, Wright's Inward Looking Outward includes his 5 part suite JTC (which stands for 'Journey To Christ') and covers of songs by Jon Brion, Sufjan Stevens and Phil Collins. In this mostly Sacred Easter Monday edition of the show, we'll also hear Sacred Jazz from pianist Andy Vance's 'Transit' group, a hymn from Irish vocal trio the Voice Squad, a Joseph Spence song from the Swan Silvertones and urban and rural 'hymns' from Boz Scaggs' new album.
