Now in its 15th year, PAI attracts more than 250 talented high school students for an intensive three-to-six week learning experience in instrumental and vocal music, theater and dance. Highly respected musicians and teachers from around the country and around the world present classes in advanced technique, music theory and performance skills.
The schedule of 30 performances will begin on Monday, June 24 with a Counselor Recital at a new time of 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall of Wyoming Seminary, 228 Wyoming Avenue, just north of Kingston Corners. The schedule concludes with a Grand Finale on Saturday, August 3 at 7 p.m. in both the Great Hall and the Buckingham Performing Arts Center, North Sprague Avenue, on the campus of the Upper School.
Among this season’s highlights are a free performance by rising vocalist and guest artist Melanie Goelitz on Tuesday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall; a free performance of fascinating world music by the unique Quey Percussion Duo and Friends on Thursday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Hall; a free concert on Thursday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. on the River Commons, featuring nationally acclaimed jazz drummer, educator, author and percussion product designer Steve Fidyk; and an exciting production of the huge hit musical “Les Miserables,” featuring direction by prominent opera director Gary Race, on Wednesday and Thursday, July 31 and August 1 at 8 p.m. in the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre. Tickets are $20 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens and will be available in advance and at the door.
Among the many accomplished musicians and artists serving this year’s Institute as faculty are Elizabeth Landon, principle flute of the Charlotte Symphony; Dr. Janet Orenstein, violinist with the Guild Trio; Col. Tim Foley, director of the “President’s Own” Marine Band from 1996-2004; and Scott Devereaux, tuba section member of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
