Colours of JAZZ

Dirk Stockmans was born in Hasselt, Belgium, in 1964. He started taking photographs around the age of 16, with his father's camera.

From the start, people were his main interest. He got his first assignment as official photographer for the yearly show event of the Translator's and Interpreter's College in Antwerp.

In 1990, he moved to the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. A few years later, he embarked on a series of concert photographs and got hooked on jazz. Since then, you can find him in front of the stage at numerous European jazz festivals.

He works exclusively in colour, which he uses in a unique way to render the atmosphere, the power, the emotions of a concert.
