August 26 is the official release
date of Jacob
Fred Jazz Odyssey’sRace Riot Suite. The music which was written and
arranged by the band’s lap steel guitarist Chris Combs, tells the story of the
1921 Tulsa race riot. In addition to the core JFJO lineup of Combs, Brian Haas (piano), Jeff Harshbarger (bass) and
Josh Raymer (drums), the group adds a five-piece horn section.
Race Riot Suite also features Steven Bernstein
(trumpet), Peter Apfelbaum (tenor and baritone saxophone), Jeff Coffin (tenor
saxophone), Mark Southerland (tenor saxophone) and Matt Leland (trombone). In
turn, when the group takes to the road in September to support the album,
Bernstein, Apfelbaum and Mark Southerland will appear on numerous dates in
various incarnations.
Prior to then, JFJO will perform a pair of local shows in the band’s home base of
Oklahoma.
