Composer. Percussionist, Caito Marcondes


Composer. Percussionist.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, lived in Taubaté (SP) to 17 years old when he went to São Paulo graduate in Architecture.

He began his piano studies at age eight, continuing for guitar, and moving as a teenager, playing drums, coming later to study the instrument with Rubens Barsotti(Zimbo Trio) and symphonic percussion Claudio Stephan. Without ever leaving theinstruments he learned, he studied composition with Hans Joachim Koellreuter andtraditional harmony and counterpoint with Mario Ficarelli.

Studying Architecture at FAU-USP, attended the musical environment of São Paulo, forming the first group, "Plateau", with Sizão Machado, Datcha, Jose Neto, Paulo Machado and Duda Neves. At that time, was invited to play with Hermeto Pascoal and joined the group of musician.

Then formed a second band, "tiptoe" with Teco Cardoso, Mane Silveira, Beto Guedes Caldas and Chico, making numerous concerts and recording two albums - "tiptoe" in 1980, considered the best instrumental album ofyears by critics, and "Images of the Unconscious" in 1982, with training and participation of the quintet Nico Assumpção and Silvio Mazzuca Jr.

From the dissolution of the band, set up a recording studio for propaganda and began to compose scores for theater, ballet and film, among them some prize, such as "Canabraba" by Reinaldo Volpato, "What moves" and "Cold in the Barriga, "both director Nilson Villas-Boas.Then he got a job with Marlui Miranda, a partnership which yielded touring Europe and the United States, and arrangements for Marlui Miranda, Choir and Symphonic Jazz Orchestra, the design of the album "Mass Indigenous Ihu 2-Pray", released in Brazil, Germany and United States.

He also participated in concerts and recordings with Toninho Horta, Mauro Senise, Heraldo do Monte, Nelson Ayres, Milton Nascimento, Francis Hime, Paulo Moura, Chico César, Duofel, Rita Lee, and Joyce Ozzetti, making this a tour to Japan along with the Holy Spirit and Arismar Beaker Nailor Azevedo.

In June 1995, recorded his first solo album, CD "Gate of the Temple" in California, with the American String Quartet Turtle Island and Francois de Lima (participant, along with the leader Beaker, the Banda Mantiqueira). The album earned the admiration and friendship of Airto Moreira, in a fax that excited after hearing the record, Caito Marcondes called the "Villa-Lobos percussion ...". 

Nominated for the "Sharp Prize".The CD "Gate of the Temple" was released in Germany and launched in February 1999, the United States.

In 1997, he composed the soundtracks for two feature-length films: "Big Night" by Denoy de Oliveira, "The Filmmaker of the Jungle" (in partnership with Teco Cardoso), Aurelio Michiles, both awarded at Festival Cinema de Brasília.




Meeting between French and Brazilian musicians, who produce contemporary music.The Claire Michael Quartet comes to Brazil to perform alongside percussionist CaitoMarcondes. The repertoire will bring together French and Brazilian compositions.Formed by Caito Marcondes (percussion), Jean-Michel Vallet (piano), Michael Claire(flute, saxophone); Chartol Patrick (bass), Thierry Le Gall (drums).
