musical awakening began in earnest after moving....

I am a singer.
My musical awakening began in earnest after moving from New York City, to North Carolina as a young girl. Through my grandfather, R.L Brown, the Pastor of St. John’s CME - a church that was founded by my family nearly 100 years ago - I was exposed to and participated in making a joyful noise in the young adult choir.

Before the call to worship, the unaccompanied spiritual choir, with its inspired vocalists would set the tone of what would become a two to three hour service. Often moved by the Holy Ghost, these singers made the most soulful music I have ever heard. Feet tapping, low moans, the purest of tones, they used their voices to put the spirit in the songs that urged folk to “get happy”.

Steeped in the tradition of gospel hymns and soul, I have thrived on the effect of a community gathered to celebrate and support life through music, song and prayer. This a powerful experience that will remain with me always
These are my musical foundations.

It is in the spirit of these powerful gatherings that I offer my heartfelt creativity to you. Pure Tones! The music I sing is a reflection of those in my community that have touched my soul. It is who I am. Pure tones is soul music for anyone that has ever believed. Enjoy
