Pianist Jason Moran Named 2010 MacArthur Fellow

Jason Moran, the 35-year-old jazz pianist who balances forward and backward-looking sensibilities in his understated style of improvising, was named one of the 23 recipients of the 2010 MacArthur Fellowship. The prestigious award, known informally as the "genius grant," awards winners $500,000 over a five-year period.
Moran is best known for his trio The Bandwagon, which features drummer Nasheet Waits and bassist Tarus Mateen. He is often compared to Thelonious Monk for the muted brilliance and slightly quirky nature of his solos and compositions.
Visit Moran's show schedule to find out when you can catch a performance near you.
