3rd Annual San Francisco Filipino-American Jazz Festival



The following are events that will be happening in the coming days leading up to the 3rd Annual San Francisco Filipino-American Jazz Festival:

Saturday October 2nd at Rasselas Jazz Club – as part of the Cool Black Couture Ball – Anna Maria Flechero with Little Brown Brother.  This is a dyamite combination. Rasselas is located at 1534 Fillmore Street in San Francisco.  Music starts at 9 pm. Wednesday October 6th at the Sheba Piano Lounge at 1419 Fillmore Street – the Little Brown Brother Jazz Quartet will host a Pre-Festival Party. Artists from the Pinoy Jazz Festival in 2008 and 2009 will be there to join in the fun. Meet artists featured at this year’s Festival.  The Sheba Piano Lounge is a great place to hear jazz.  It’s a beautiful venue and has great Ethiopian food.  http://shebapianolounge.com/

Thursday October 7th – The San Francisco Filipino American Jazz Festival, in collaboration with the Fillmore Heritage Center will host a “Talk with the Artist”.  Featured will be artists from this year’s Festival including Sandra Lim Viray, who currently lives in Manila. This discussion will be preceded by a multimedia presentation on the History of Filipino American Jazz in the SF Bay Area. In the days following the Festival are the following events:
Tuesday October 12th at the 7 Mile House in Brisbane – at 8 pm there will be a Festival After-Party hosted by the Al Molina Quintet. Located at 2800 Bayshore Blvd. in Brisbane, the 7 Mile House has been home to Al Molina and his group on Tuesday nights for several years. The Quintet will feature special guests. http://www.almolina.org/

The SF Filipino American Jazz Festival presents “Soccoro and Friends”. On Friday October 15th at Piedmont Piano in Oakland, there will be a Special Concert from 8 – 9:30 pm featuring pianist and composer Socorro de Castro and some of her musical friends. She was a featured artist at the 2009 SF Filipino American Jazz Festival. Piedmont Piano features live music on a regular basis and is a wonderful place to hear performances by different Bay Area artists. Saturday October 23rd at the San Francisco Main Public Library at 100 Larkin Street from 12-4 pm is a presentation hosted by the Filipino American National Historical Society and the San Francisco Filipino American Jazz Festival. The presentation is entitled “Buffalo Soldiers and the Philippine American War”. Guest speakers will include Evangeline Canonizado Buell and Abe Ignacio. There will be a performace by Little Brown Brother with Anna Maria Flechero. Admission is Free. The event will take place at the Koret Auditorium in the library from from 12 noon to 4 pm. This is part of the Singgalot Exhibit on the Filipino American Experience – currently on a national tour.
